George Sisting is a dedicated professional photographer with over fifteen years of experience. George was born in Livermore, California but spent his formative years living in Upstate New York, just outside the lower Adirondack region. George’s love of photography began at age fifteen when he first started snapping photos on a regular basis. After high school, George worked two years at a professional photo-finishing lab where he established his core foundation in photographic materials and processes. At age twenty, George attended Rochester Institute of Technology to enhance his education in the art and science of photography (Imaging Science). George graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Imaging Science. After Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), he moved to Cortland, New York and attended the State University of New York, College at Cortland, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. George’s early professional photography career started while still in high school when he became the yearbook photo-editor and was responsible for photographing senior yearbook portraits and sports photojournalsim. In addition, he also immersed himself in wedding photography through family wedding events. Immediately after graduating RIT, George worked with an Ophthalmologist who was a pioneer in ophthalmic medical imaging. His practice was one of the first to adopt electronic still photography into the diagnostic workflow. While attending SUNY Cortland, George consulted with professors and shared his knowledge of computer graphics and integrated it into classroom teaching practices. He realized that computer generated presentations kept the students more engaged in the learning process rather than with the use of chalk boards. As a result, George was asked to be a guest speaker at the NYS Conference on Instructional Technologies. Prior to graduation, he had the opportunity to be the head photographer at the 1994 NCAA Wrestling Championships. After graduation, George moved to New York City where he worked at SUNY College of Optometry as a Biomedical Communications Consultant. He worked closely with professors on the design of printed materials and educated faculty on the use of presentation software and hardware, which enhanced the delivery of their curriculum to students. George also provided such services as web site design, portraiture, product photography, and scientific/biomedical photography. George's greatest accomplishment was turning around a poorly managed media resource center by updating the digital imaging technology and establishing same day service for critical medical work. After SUNY College of Optometry, George ventured to Japan to teach English. During his stay, he decided to photograph human interest in his free time, a personal project that would inspire him to incorporate it into his lifestyle. After Japan, George had an enlightening opportunity to work on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Not only was this a photographic opportunity, but it was intellectually enlightening as well. This experience would set the foundation for his professional career. George's positive attitude and ability to research enabled him to successfully set up a K-12 technology curriculum that complied with national standards, set up a computer network, and troubleshoot computer problems. In July 1999, George was discovered by The Marymount School of New York. He was appointed Technology Integrator and was responsible for redesigning their technology curriculum so that it paralleled the latest trends in the industry. In Fall 2002, The Marymount School expanded by opening a new building. George was responsible for heading that technology infrastructure, which became his biggest network system design project and curriculum design project. Additionally, George was guest a speaker at Apple Computer's technology symposium that emphasized the use of digital video and web authoring in education. He also had some memorable opportunities during his tenure there, such as photographing White House Press Secretary Helen Thomas, actress Sigourney Weaver, and First Lady/Senator Hilary Clinton. In addition to serving as an education professional in New York City, George joined the U.S. Navy Reserves as a photojournalist for Fleet Combat Camera Atlantic. This opportunity allowed him noteworthy assignments as documenting the tragedy of the September 11 Terrorist Attack on the World Trade Center and working as a correspondent photographer with NATO. In the intervening years George became actively involved in the New York City creative community working with emerging talents in music, film, television and theatre. In Spring 2007, George graduated from Binghamton University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing; which was achieved in one year. Currently, George works as an Operating Room Registered Nurse at Cayuga Medical Center. Additionally, George's photographic talent did not go unnoticed at the hospital. He frequently freelances as a biomedical photographer. He is often found photographing operating room procedures, staff portraits, and designing marketing material for the operating room. George provides high quality digital imaging services to clients with varying interests. George loves working with people; whether it is a child on a playground, an actor on the stage, the crew on a film set or guests at a wedding. His years of diverse humanitarian experience and dedication to photography results in an enjoyable relationship that yields high quality imagery. At present, George primarily concentrates on wedding photojournalism and nature photography. But, still holds treasured memories of international photojournalism and theatre photography. |
